My Yearly NO BUY!

Follow me on my journey on trying to change my spending habits.

I am doing a no buy! FOR A YEAR! This might sound drastic or crazy! but measures to stop me from spending had to be taken. I am a shopaholic. I have no control when it comes to spending. I am 23 years old! I have to be taking care of my finances, now! Money brings me anxiety. When I have a big spend to cover, or when there's something wrong with my car, I always worry about money. Why? Because of my spending habits, I forget to save money. I SPEND MORE THAN I EARN! I don't want to be on my 30s and be living paycheck to paycheck.

What is a No Buy?

Well, it means you can only buy necessities, under the period of time you decide, monthly or yearly. You decide what things you put in your no buy, and your rules.

My reasons?

1. I need to save money, I want to transfer to a 4-year college. I have to save up money.

2. I have things I haven't even touched since I bought them! I want to be able to use all the things I have. And enjoyed them.

3. The planet. I create lots of waste with all the things I keep buying. I want to be able to reduce my footprint on this planet. Reduce the waste I produce. So by stopping my spending habits, I hope I will.

4. Improve my mental health. As crazy as it sounds, my addiction to shopping creates anxiety. The anxiety of having stuff that I do not use. The urge to go buy everything that they put out.

My Rules

1.   I am not allowed to buy any more makeup, skincare, body care, hair products, stationery (pens, notebooks, planners, calendars), & clothing (including, shoes, handbags, etc.) unless it’s to replace something I finished. Unless I do not have something in my house to replace a finished product, I am allowed to buy a new one.
2.   Cancel all monthly subscriptions, such as Ipsy.
3.   I am allowed to received gifts, money and gift cards, but those will not be used to buy any more makeup unless is to replace something.
4.   I am allowed to buy gifts.
5.   I’m not allowed to buy any houseware, house decorations. Unless is to replace something. In this category, I include coffee mugs, plastic ware, drinkware etc.
6.   I am allowed to buy experiences, such as going out to eat. Buying a concert ticket. Going to a museum. Buying a new book. Or going out to dance.
7.   This no buy does not apply to grocery shopping.
8.   I am allowed to buy tools for school and work. But if it’s really necessary.
9.   I am allowed to spend on car maintenance.

10.                     I will limit my spending on dining out to twice a month.

What can you expect from a NO BUY beauty blogger?

I will do monthly checkups were I will post about my difficulties during that month. I will encourage you to use what you already own, instead of buying new stuff. I will bring you options to replace beauty items for more eco-friendly items, that one, reduces waste, and two, they last longer so you will have to replace them less.

Hope you can follow me around my journey, and I can inspire you to make some changes too.
Remember do something because it will bring you joy.

Thanks for reading!

NEW YEAR! NEW ME! NEW BLOG?

The changes that 2019 will bring into my blog.

I'm 23 years old. And this upcoming year I will be 24. What does this have to do with the blog even? Well as an adult I have to think better my life choices and that includes my spending and the responsibility I have towards taking care of this planet. My home. I've been thinking a lot about the kind of lifestyle I want to pursue. Lately, I've been making some small changes to save the planet, such as rejecting plastic bags at the grocery store, bringing my own cutlery, making my coffee at home every morning. But I was finding myself constantly thinking that I was being a hypocrite if I kept spending my money on makeup and unnecessary things, and at the same time, I was rooting for a more " eco-friendly" lifestyle. I want my blog to encourage you to use what you own. To break the consumerism chain. I don't want to toot my horn, but I only own three powders, for some, it might be too much! But for the girl who used to own close to 10 powders at a time, believe me, it's an achievement. After years of spending my money on makeup, I've come to the realization that you only need so many products on your makeup bag. I know crazy, right? The turn that the blog will take, will overcome slowly, and so more it will be, more like a journal, of me documenting my experience on this transition from the crazy girl, that buys a lot of makeup, to the girl that is a smart consumer. I'm excited about the changes that 2019 will bring. Before I go, I just want you to remind you, that always do what brings you joy, what makes you feel happy. Don't do something because It's a trend or everybody is doing it. Do you. Do what makes you feel at peace. And remember, if you don't share the same beliefs, don't hate. One mind, one world. We can all do our thing and still, respect each other. I will be doing a yearly No buy!
