College Student Tries Walmart Grocery - A REVIEW

Happy Monday!

Hope you are having a great start of the week!
Today I am going to do a review a different one.
I tried Walmart Grocery, I am not a busy mom or busy businesswoman, that can't find a spot in her busy schedule to do go grocery shopping, in fact, I love going grocery shopping it clears my mind, especially after a long day. I tend to go after work on a Tuesday when I find, is less busy.

So, why give Walmart Grocery a try?
This week is going to be a busy one. I wanted to have everything I need for the week at the start of the week so,  I can plan out my meals and snacks for the rest of the week.
Also, I wanted to see how much I could save if I just added to my cart what I really need, instead of going to the store and getting distracted by novelty items and going home with things I did not need in the first place.

How It Works?

You download the app to your phone.
Then you set up an account, add your address and payment method.
The minimum to get your groceries delivered is $30
After you set up your account you have the option to get a free delivery trial for 15 days for unlimited delivery which has a charge of $9.95 a month
After the 15 days, you will get charged for the $9.95 if you did not cancel before the trial period.

I did a grocery list and I only added what was on it to my cart.

My total came out to $31.24 with tax included.

If for some reason they sold out of the items in your cart, they will add a substitute and they would not charge you an extra cost if this is more expensive.

You have the option to choose the time you want your grocery delivered.

You have until 1:35 am of the day of your delivery to cancel or edit your order.

They will contact you once they are preparing your order and once it's out for delivery.

If there's any problem with your order they will contact you.

My experience

I started placing my order yesterday around 3-4 pm. They did not have any spots available for the same day, so I opt to have my groceries delivered today, Monday, at 9:00 am.
Around 8:00 am they were preparing my order and they contact me to let me know they had replaced my items ordered with two substitutes because they were sold out of the items I ordered and I did not end up paying more.

Around 8:40 my items were out for delivery and they arrived around 9:10 am.

Overall my experience was a  pleasant one. My items arrived in good condition. The produce arrived fresh. I also got a call asking how my experience was.

Will I reorder?

Yes! Based on my experience. If I have another busy week or something comes up, it is good to have an option you can rely on.
I can see how this can be a great option for moms, college students that live on campus or do not have a car and need to do grocery shopping.

You also opt for the pickup option, this way you do not need to pay for delivery.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS - SEPTEMBER 2019

THINGS I'VE BEEN LOVING LATELY

Hello there,

Whoa! I wrote that with a British accent on my head! Haha!

Anyway, happy Wednesday we're getting closer to the weekend!

Today, like I religiously do every month, I am going to share with you my favorites!

Pardon if I am a little rusty, I began school and this week is my third week. It is kinda hard to handle everything when you go to school and have a part-time job. But nothing that time management can't solve.

So I wanted to hop back with an easy write, my favorites. Let's start, shall we?

Instant Oats - Any brand - Any flavor!

Okay, so I am not a breakfast person. I skip breakfast 90 % of the time. But since the days I go to school I spend all day out of my house. I wanted to start eating properly.

Oats are easy to prepare! And easy to carry around and eat! I buy the packets and add toppings like nuts, and fruit. They make my life easier.

Snow Falling - Jane Gloriana Villanueva - As seen on Jane The Virgin.

Yes! You read that right!

When finished the season finale of Jane The Virgin, I was broken-hearted because the show I watched for 4 years got to an end.

This show hits home so bad! Growing up watching novelas with my Abuelita, I felt included. I love how the show addresses some of the issues Latinos face these days.

I love Gina! She's an AMAZING actor! An amazing person overall!

I've had this book on my Amazon cart for a while now until I got broken-hearted and I was not ready to let go of Jane The Virgin so I got it!

Man, I love it! It's like you're hearing Jane's voice as you read it! Right now as I write this I am halfway through the book. Is an easy read! It gets you hooked and you don't want to stop reading.

If you are a Jane The Virgin fan you should definitely buy it!

For the first time in a looooong time. I am talking about makeup!

Yup! The reason why this blog was created!

During summer break I ditched the whole makeup thing, the heat here in H-town is cray-cray! Now that I go to school and interact with more humans, I want to look presentable. I have 3 staples that have saved my life in the past weeks.

Kat Von D - Shade & Light Contour Palette.

I bought this face palette a while ago! I recently fall in love with it. Why? Because the less time I have to get ready, the fewer products I have to use and the fewer steps I want to do. Having my setting powder and my bronzer/contour in one palette helps me accomplish that.

I use the first two colors from left to right to set my under eye concealer. And the two on the bottom to contour.

The light powders, not only set my concealer but they brighten the undereye area and they make me look less tired even tho I am!

The dark powders help me sculpt my face. They are easy to blend and they do not make you look muddy.

Milani - Baked Powder Blush - Luminoso

This is blush is the "perfect blush."

This blush gives life to my face basically.

It's this subtle shimmery corally color, that works with every skin tone! And because it has some shimmer it gives you the most radiant glow! It's so pretty I love it! It makes my cheeks look juicy.

*Buy here $ 6-10

Maybelline - The Rocket Mascara.

This was my fave back in highschool.

I need my mascara to do 3 things:

1. Hold my curl.

2. Make my lashes appear longer.

3. Don't make me look like a raccoon at the end of the day.

This one gives me all those things. It helps my straight lashes stay curly all day! My lashes look longer, people even as if I got lash extension lol! And it holds up, and do not smear!

I have long days, and the heat is always a problem where I live, I need products to meet my standards.

*Buy here $4.95

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what are your favorites.

ENVIROMENTAL FRIDAYS; SAVING THE PLANET 101

LESS PLASTIC, MORE SAVINGS?

A guide to buying bulk foods at Sprouts

Hello, my readers.
Happy Friday, welcome to my first post of September.
Today we are taking a bit of a turn here.
As you may know, I am constantly trying to find new ways to save money and save the planet at the same time.

But first I need to give you a little background on why I am so conscious of saving the planet!
It all started back when I was little. About 5 or 6. A lot of it has to do with the culture I grew up in, and my family environment.

Most of the traits I have today I learned when I was young, this is why is too important for kids to grow up with good values.

Anyway, I am losing track of myself, back to where it all began.

My mom is a huge inspiration in my life. She taught me a lot of the wonderful values I have now. At a young age, she made me aware of what having empathy is all about. I mention this because it has to do a lot with the decisions I make today.

Later in life, I took an environmental class. They taught me the effects of not measuring the consequences of my acts (environmental wise). The consequences of not taking care of the planet. I learned to recycle, to reduce and to reuse.

Ignorance is one of the biggest reasons why we stand still. Not knowing or choosing not to, blocks us. We need to educate ourselves to be better, to grow. I always like to say, we never learn too much, you know?

Summarizing everything. One of the main reasons I try to reduce my carbon footprint on the planet is because since I was little I was taught to have empathy, not only for others but for my home, THE EARTH. And because thankfully I was given education on what to do, and how.

Now I want to pass that onto you. Environmental Friday's was born out of the idea of spreading the correct information and easy ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Thought out the months I will be posting my experience, my methods and what I no longer buy to help reduce waste. I hope you will stick with me and join me on this journey to take action and save the planet.

Digging into those "zero waste" posts and videos I came across two wonderful things:

1. Many stores now offer bulk sections. Meaning that you can buy cereals, grains, candy, etc. By bulk. This way you have the option to buy without the extra packaging.

Today we are going to talk about the bulk products you can find in a bin inside a store and you can self serve on the quantity you need.

2. They let you bring your own containers. Because It wouldn't be helping the planet if you still used the plastic bag, duh! Not only can you bring cloth bags, but your own jars! HOW AWESOME! RIGHT?

When I knew about this I was thrilled because let's be honest, we all throw away those plastic containers, and we are producing a lot of waste.

So if I can reduce the waste I produce weekly, by buying bulk foods with my own containers. I'm all about it!

I only know two stores that sell bulk foods that allow you to bring your own containers close to where I live:

*Sprouts
check sprouts website to learn what bulk food they sell

*Whole Foods
Whole Foods website

After this long intro. I'm going to share tips on what to do and how.

You will need the following:

1. Your own plastic containers or jars.

For this, I want to emphasize you do not have to go out and buy jars or containers. First, look around, make sure you do not have already jars lying around your kitchen. I reuse the jars that the pasta sauce comes in. I just clean them really good. The whole point of this is to reduce waste, remember?

2. Dry erase markers.

Choose dry erase markers over permanent markers because they are easy to erase if you need to.

3. Reusable bags.

What steps to take?

* Buy Jars here

* Buy mesh bags here

* Buy dry erase markers  here
1. Gather your jars and containers.

2. Make a list of the bulk products you are going to buy, and assign to each container what is going into each one.

3. Make sure when you arrive at sprouts or any bulk food store, to ask a cashier to weigh your containers/jars and they will tell you the weight of the container, you are going to write this number on the container (this is why you need a marker). Repeat this with each container.

4. After step 3 go to the bulk section and start filling the containers up! Make sure to write the PLU code on the container.

5. Go to the cashier, they will use the PLU code you wrote to identify each bulk product, after this they will deduct the weight of the container and you will be charged just for the net weight. That is why you need to weigh the containers first. And why is so important you write the numbers on the container.

6. Pay and enjoy your bulk food without the guiltiness of wasting plastic packaging.

Sprouts discounted me $.05 cents for every container I used. I used 8 I saved $.40 cents. It might not be much. But the price of bulk food is usually less because you're not paying for packing, display, and brands. Plus Sprouts is known for offering quality products.

This might get tedious but changes require work and actions. I still need to change a lot of habits. I am not perfect but I can assure I am working every day to become better.

I really hope this post was helpful to you, and you learned something. Please feel free to share, and spread the word.

I will see you in a few months with another Environmental Friday's segment!

LATINXS & CHINGONXS - AUGUST 2019 su_ella

Monday, August 26, 2019

SU: Spanish (pronoun) her

ELLA: Spanish (noun) she

Hello there, happy Monday!

So I took a little vacation last week and did not put up a new post. I was taking a mini-vacay from homework and the blog, but I'm back.

A little more background about LATINXS&CHINGONXS; The whole point about this monthly "segment" is to talk about my favorite LATINXS, not only shops but those who support the Latinxs community.

Me as a Latina I want to give to my gente, I want to support those who hustle, those who had a dream and they made it a reality. Because the sun shines for everyone.

Also, I support those brands, who share my beliefs and give to my gente. Those who are the voices of the ones unheard. The ones who educate others about our cultures. The ones proving that we are CHINGONXS. Okay, now drumroll, please...
Today's spotlight goes to:

SU_ELLA

Su Ella has a special place in my heart. I came across their brand as per usual, on those late scrolling thru IG nights.
The shirt that caught my attention the most was one with the RITA & FRIDA & CELIA & SELENA design. I admire those women.
I grew up singing to Selena's songs. I grew up dancing la Negra Tiene Tumbao de Celia. I grew up admiring Frida's paintings and I used to watch Rita Moreno on TV. I felt identified with those women. My whole life I grew looking up to them. So when I saw the shirt I knew I had to get it!

For me is important that brands launch products that make us feel included, feel empowered, that they keep reminding us where we come from. How important is to be proud of our roots, and countries. A lot of people compliment my shirt, they love it!
Now:

what is su_ella?

On their words:

ABOUT SU_ELLA

su_ella is the story of two girls, Latina of course, born and raised in NJ who have been friends drawn together for years by their love for creative arts and fashion.  Never realizing where God was leading them...

The idea came together in July of 2016, when Jisely Jimenez asked Lian Amado for her opinion on a tee, in the girls' usual manner. The idea to create a shirt with freedom and unlike anything seen before led the ladies of su_ella into talk of who they want to empower them. July is the month celebrated by all Frida Kahlo lovers, fed their desire to be different and to represent girls who are more like them.

 What's their goal?

Their goal now is to make dope Mujer gear that pushes Latinas to be bold, creative and to remind them of who they are! Lian (Cuban & Spaniard) and Jisely J. (Dominican), together as su_ella, they draw from the Latin women who have paved the way for them, to inspire the new generation of Latinas to come!

"Our dream is to keep adding to our list of Latin Legends and to eventually be on it too. We just want to see more of us when we're talking about history."

Saucing up the world, one Latina at a time!

For our Mujeres, ❤

Su_ella has expanded its product selection since I started following them. They have a wide variety of tees and sweatshirts. They now have a tote bag and a pin. And they sell the most adorable books for kids, illustrated by Jisely J.

I have a little niece who was born here in the US, but she's half Dominican, half Mexican. She has the most beautiful hair. Those bouncy soft curls are to envy! I want her to embrace those curls. That Pelo malo as some people call it. su_ella has this book called Curls & Cartoons, I want to buy it for her, so she knows her hair is beautiful no matter what, and that she's going to make everyone move as those curls bounce them away.

Su_ella represents their Dominican & Cuban culture, but they make any Latinxs feel included. On top of that, they show appreciation for their faith, they have a fe (Spanish for faith), and a Papa Dios (God Father) shirts.

They are all about empowerment no matter where you came from, you have a place. SHOW YOUR CULTURE! I love that su_ella is an all-inclusive brand because no matter what gender you are you can still rock their products!
