LATINXS & CHINGONXS - AUGUST 2019 su_ella

Monday, August 26, 2019

SU: Spanish (pronoun) her

ELLA: Spanish (noun) she

Hello there, happy Monday!

So I took a little vacation last week and did not put up a new post. I was taking a mini-vacay from homework and the blog, but I'm back.

A little more background about LATINXS&CHINGONXS; The whole point about this monthly "segment" is to talk about my favorite LATINXS, not only shops but those who support the Latinxs community.

Me as a Latina I want to give to my gente, I want to support those who hustle, those who had a dream and they made it a reality. Because the sun shines for everyone.

Also, I support those brands, who share my beliefs and give to my gente. Those who are the voices of the ones unheard. The ones who educate others about our cultures. The ones proving that we are CHINGONXS. Okay, now drumroll, please...
Today's spotlight goes to:

SU_ELLA

Su Ella has a special place in my heart. I came across their brand as per usual, on those late scrolling thru IG nights.
The shirt that caught my attention the most was one with the RITA & FRIDA & CELIA & SELENA design. I admire those women.
I grew up singing to Selena's songs. I grew up dancing la Negra Tiene Tumbao de Celia. I grew up admiring Frida's paintings and I used to watch Rita Moreno on TV. I felt identified with those women. My whole life I grew looking up to them. So when I saw the shirt I knew I had to get it!

For me is important that brands launch products that make us feel included, feel empowered, that they keep reminding us where we come from. How important is to be proud of our roots, and countries. A lot of people compliment my shirt, they love it!
Now:

what is su_ella?

On their words:

ABOUT SU_ELLA

su_ella is the story of two girls, Latina of course, born and raised in NJ who have been friends drawn together for years by their love for creative arts and fashion.  Never realizing where God was leading them...

The idea came together in July of 2016, when Jisely Jimenez asked Lian Amado for her opinion on a tee, in the girls' usual manner. The idea to create a shirt with freedom and unlike anything seen before led the ladies of su_ella into talk of who they want to empower them. July is the month celebrated by all Frida Kahlo lovers, fed their desire to be different and to represent girls who are more like them.

 What's their goal?

Their goal now is to make dope Mujer gear that pushes Latinas to be bold, creative and to remind them of who they are! Lian (Cuban & Spaniard) and Jisely J. (Dominican), together as su_ella, they draw from the Latin women who have paved the way for them, to inspire the new generation of Latinas to come!

"Our dream is to keep adding to our list of Latin Legends and to eventually be on it too. We just want to see more of us when we're talking about history."

Saucing up the world, one Latina at a time!

For our Mujeres, ❤

Su_ella has expanded its product selection since I started following them. They have a wide variety of tees and sweatshirts. They now have a tote bag and a pin. And they sell the most adorable books for kids, illustrated by Jisely J.

I have a little niece who was born here in the US, but she's half Dominican, half Mexican. She has the most beautiful hair. Those bouncy soft curls are to envy! I want her to embrace those curls. That Pelo malo as some people call it. su_ella has this book called Curls & Cartoons, I want to buy it for her, so she knows her hair is beautiful no matter what, and that she's going to make everyone move as those curls bounce them away.

Su_ella represents their Dominican & Cuban culture, but they make any Latinxs feel included. On top of that, they show appreciation for their faith, they have a fe (Spanish for faith), and a Papa Dios (God Father) shirts.

They are all about empowerment no matter where you came from, you have a place. SHOW YOUR CULTURE! I love that su_ella is an all-inclusive brand because no matter what gender you are you can still rock their products!

LATINXS & CHINGONXS - MILLENNIAL LOTERIA EDITION

MEXICAN BINGO BUT WAY MORE MILLENNIAL

Hello there,

Welcome back to my segment Latinxs & Chingonxs. About a year ago I started this project on my blog but I never really put the effort to keep writing more posts. I want to keep writing about my favorite Latinxs shops because I feel like we need to spread the word and support the Latinxs community. Anyway, take a shot every time you read Latinxs, Millennial, and Loteria haha. After this long intro let's get started. Today we will talk about:

MILLENNIAL LOTERIA

Millennial Loteria

I found Millennial Loteria, like most of the shops I'll be talking here, through IG aka Instagram. I believe one of my cousins tagged me on one of Millennial's posts, I followed instantly, by the time I start following Millennial Loteria they have already released the first version of Millenial Loteria, the one with the same graphics but way more millennial names. By the way, Mike Alfaro is the creator aka @Heyguata on IG. I remember they only had it on pre-order at the time. I planned to write about Millennial Loteria by the end of December because the released day was Dec 4 if I'm not mistaken. That's my story with ML (Millennial Loteria for short).

Who's Mike Alfaro & How Millennial Loteria was created?

Mike Alfaro was born in Guatemala and later moved to L.A to pursue his advertising career. He said Millennial was created to fight the stereotypes Latinxs, but with a twist of sarcasm.

Now, what's Millennial Loteria?

It's a way more Millennial version of Mexican bingo aka Loteria!

In his words:

OMG, can you even? Millennial Lotería is a hilarious and insightful parody of the classic “Mexican Bingo” game called Lotería, but this time, it’s like way more millennial. I created this series to combat outdated Hispanic stereotypes and bring a more modern and relevant representation of Hispanic-American and their daily life. This set of cards reimagines La Dama as La Feminist, El Catrín as El Hipster, and Las Jaras as La Hashtag.

What do I think about Millennial Loteria?

It's a fun game to pull out at every family or friends gathering.
It's fun to see how younger generations can relate more to a Loteria card. Like Mike said, he found a way to make "millennials" feel more incorporated into games our parents and grandparents used to play, leaving behind machismo and stereotypes. The times I have played Millenial Loteria, I've enjoyed it so much! I laugh every time the older generations try to relate the new graphics with the old Loteria ones. I remember the first time I used it was back in December during Christmas Eve, cause you know for us Mexicans that's when we celebrate Christmas. Anyway back to ML, it was soo cool seeing my cousins enjoy playing Millennial Loteria because they can relate to the cards. I love that they included Spanglish is a way to incorporate generations that were born here. If you get Millennial Loteria, trust me you won't be bored. Overall Mike out a lot of effort into the game. I won't recommend letting kids and teenagers under 16 play, the box says 18-35 but I think 16 is a good age. People with a closed mind won't enjoy this game at all, so if you do not like the idea, or you find it "offensive" do not be a hater and just stay out of it!

Where can I get this awesome Loteria?

For now, the only retailer where you can find Millennial Loteria is Amazon! You can get it as soon as 1 day with free prime shipping.

Buy here on sale $21.72

What's inside my box?

The box includes:

46 Loteria Cards
1O Game Boards
8O Paper Bitcoins
1 Collectible Pin
and also a Board explaining the game.

Is there more?

Yes! Millennial Loteria,
just launched the pre-order to the Expansion Pack which includes: New cards, 10 extra boards, and a few surprises.
 Pre-order here $11.99

Latinxs & Chingonxs - JENZEANO DESIGNS

A SOUTH TEXAS BASED LIFESTYLE BRAND

Hello!
I'm still alive! I had big plans for the blog during all the month of July but "life happened" and then August flew by. And now I'm back in college. For a few months now, I've been trying to dedicate once a month a post to my fellows latinxs chingonxs (I included the "x" so it could be inclusive to all my latin women and men). These posts will be dedicated to shops, people, entrepreneurs etc. I will share my favorite shops and latin people with you. Along with their stories.

Today I am starting with a really special latina shop.

Jen Zeano Designs

How could I talk about chingonas and don't talk about the amazing latina I work with.

I found out about JZD during those nights when you are scrolling through IG and somehow I ended up finding her Bidi Bom Bom shirt (cause Selena fan, duh). I fell in love with her work. By the way, she has shirts, decals, jewelry, phone cases and hats with latina empowerment quotes.
I joined her JZD Hermanas ambassador program last March, and I couldn't believe she made me part of her awesome team! How does this work? I earn some $$$ every time someone purchases something from her shop using my link. I joined because I'm all about that side hustle, and I get to talk about one of my favorite shops.

A little of Jen's story and her store.

In their words:

About Us

We are the free spirits and the wild hearts. The game changers and the movers. The Latinas and the doers.
JZD is a Texas-based lifestyle brand with a mission to create rad things for the free spirits. We believe in kindness, girl power, staying up till 2am, adventure, Latina magic, and celebrating every tiny victory, which is why we strive to create a brand that celebrates all of you.
Our shop owner, Jen, is an adventure-seeking flower child! Mexicana and proud. She believes any occasion is good enough to celebrate and will never turn down an opportunity to spread kindness. She advocates love, peace, and equality and refuses to live by society's norms. She is a wild spirit and a happy soul.

More about JZD:
They are a Texas-based online shop. They make rad things for the free spirits and they are home the LATINA POWER shirt.

What I own from JZD:

*Cabrona Pero Cute shirt:

*LATINA POWER shirt (black & white):

*LATINA POWER shirt (pink):

What I like about JZD:

I'm all about rocking some awesome shirts with POWERFUL quotes. I'm used to the weird stares and the "don't you think your shirt it's a little aggressive" My reply: Yes, that's what is meant to be. Thanks, Jen for creating such a nice brand that allows us to show how proud we are to be Latinas & Cabronas.

Where can I purchase?
