MEXICAN BINGO BUT WAY MORE MILLENNIAL
Hello there,
Welcome back to my segment Latinxs & Chingonxs. About a year ago I started this project on my blog but I never really put the effort to keep writing more posts. I want to keep writing about my favorite Latinxs shops because I feel like we need to spread the word and support the Latinxs community. Anyway, take a shot every time you read Latinxs, Millennial, and Loteria haha. After this long intro let's get started. Today we will talk about:
MILLENNIAL LOTERIA
Millennial Loteria
I found Millennial Loteria, like most of the shops I'll be talking here, through IG aka Instagram. I believe one of my cousins tagged me on one of Millennial's posts, I followed instantly, by the time I start following Millennial Loteria they have already released the first version of Millenial Loteria, the one with the same graphics but way more millennial names. By the way, Mike Alfaro is the creator aka @Heyguata on IG. I remember they only had it on pre-order at the time. I planned to write about Millennial Loteria by the end of December because the released day was Dec 4 if I'm not mistaken. That's my story with ML (Millennial Loteria for short).
Who's Mike Alfaro & How Millennial Loteria was created?
Mike Alfaro was born in Guatemala and later moved to L.A to pursue his advertising career. He said Millennial was created to fight the stereotypes Latinxs, but with a twist of sarcasm.
Now, what's Millennial Loteria?
It's a way more Millennial version of Mexican bingo aka Loteria!
In his words:
OMG, can you even? Millennial Lotería is a hilarious and insightful parody of the classic “Mexican Bingo” game called Lotería, but this time, it’s like way more millennial. I created this series to combat outdated Hispanic stereotypes and bring a more modern and relevant representation of Hispanic-American and their daily life. This set of cards reimagines La Dama as La Feminist, El Catrín as El Hipster, and Las Jaras as La Hashtag.

What do I think about Millennial Loteria?
It's a fun game to pull out at every family or friends gathering.
It's fun to see how younger generations can relate more to a Loteria card. Like Mike said, he found a way to make "millennials" feel more incorporated into games our parents and grandparents used to play, leaving behind machismo and stereotypes. The times I have played Millenial Loteria, I've enjoyed it so much! I laugh every time the older generations try to relate the new graphics with the old Loteria ones. I remember the first time I used it was back in December during Christmas Eve, cause you know for us Mexicans that's when we celebrate Christmas. Anyway back to ML, it was soo cool seeing my cousins enjoy playing Millennial Loteria because they can relate to the cards. I love that they included Spanglish is a way to incorporate generations that were born here. If you get Millennial Loteria, trust me you won't be bored. Overall Mike out a lot of effort into the game. I won't recommend letting kids and teenagers under 16 play, the box says 18-35 but I think 16 is a good age. People with a closed mind won't enjoy this game at all, so if you do not like the idea, or you find it "offensive" do not be a hater and just stay out of it!
